The Primrose School at Westerre Commons is a private preschool located in the west end of Henrico County not far from Short Pump. We are part of a national family of accredited schools serving infants through after-school children, their families and communities. With our Balanced Learning approach, we nurture curiosity, confidence, creativity and compassion.

We have an immediate opening for a full-time, support teacher to work with our school age children. During the school year, our school age teacher will help where needed in the morning, pick children up from the area elementary schools and run the after school program in the afternoon. During the summers this position will be full time with the school age children and will involve taking children on 2-3 field trips each week. 

$500 sign on bonus and competitive compensation based on experience!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a positive relationship with parents, children and co-workers.
  • Plans and executes daily activities for 5-12 year old children using the Primrose Balanced Learning Curriculum. Adheres to the guidelines and changes to schedule as required for field trips.
  • During the school year, ensure that all students devote the designated amount of time to homework activities: takes responsibility for having all children's homework checked by a teacher for accuracy.
  • Drives Primrose 15 passenger bus to transport children from the elementary schools to Primrose, and on field trips throughout the Richmond area.
  • Follows school policies and procedures
  • Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions, ensuring to meet or exceed annual training requirements.
  • Requirements:
  • Ability to relate positively to young children
  • Previous teaching experience in a public or private school, preschool or childcare center
  • Knowledge of social, emotional and creative needs of young children.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent driving record
  • Skills in time management with the ability to organize environment and prioritize work.
  • Certification or degree related to early childhood or elementary education is preferred
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations. Infant teachers must be able to properly lift infants into and out of a crib.
